Shattered Expectations (Review)

went out of my way today to purchased the pricy, (at £10.50 a bottle) Black Shatter nail lacquer by O.P.I. completely seduced by the magazine adz. I am from tip to toe mad about nails, in case you didn’t know.

One massive coat of Shatter varnish should be applied to get the best effects, which they don’t tell you on the product, however it is truly amazing to watch the shatter effect appear in front of your eyes.

forgive the 'hotmess' nail-look, painted them so quickly

I also got O.P.I.’s Absolutely Alice blue glitter varnish, priced at £7.99 (on sale from £9.99). The varnish is “cute” and that is all it is.

Over all, I fed into the hype about O.P.I. and their Black Shatter moneymaking ploy. O.P.I. varnishes are a nice product to have due to the shapely bottles and large brushes, but are they worth the time and money? Hell NO!!

However I am strangely glad I tried Black Shatter.

Prada Spring/Summer 2011 Campaign Videos

The newly released video campaign by Prada, has got my body thinking, and my mind movin’ to the off key beats and 1920’s chic.

What song is playing in the campaign video? Hm…

When I originally saw the collection, back in September, I fobbed it off as “cute” (nice inspiration, kool interpretation, but not intellectually stimulating). However after seeing this video campaign for Prada’s Spring/Summer 2011 collection, I have changed my mind.

I have been forced to realise how central branding and ideological ideas are to my love of fashion. Without a concise concept for me to identify with, I have no interest in a trend, style, collection, or subcultural movement etc. It has to speak to me of more than I can see. I’m gonna talk some more about this another time.

Some behind the scenes footage…

toile

This is a picture of a skirt I made… lol… no, it’s not the finished product! It’s a toile (practice garment), for a pattern I created. I know traditionally you make toiles from calico; however, I found this polyester fabric lying around the house that I’m never gonna use. I put the toile together in quick time, that’s why it looks a mess.

Thought I’d share.

I’m planning to feature the finished skirt on the blog, in a big way, so watch out for that!!

Betty Page... is that you?

As I was flicking through the February issue of British Vogue, with Victoria Beckham on the cover, when, my attention was devoured by a delicious sight lying upon the page before me. The new spring ads, from Dior.

I just couldn’t stop eyeing...

I am loving the 50’s pinup getup, the way the ad appears to have been coated in a heavy layer of fake tanner, the model, Karlie Kloss. Galliano has brought back Betty Page with a vengeance! Kudos!

I love the complete Spring/Summer 2011 Dior pret-a-porter collection, but here are some of my favourite looks.

Fashion Doc.

Last week my friend, Scarlett asked me if I wanted to film a fashion documentary with her for her university, and I jumped at the chance. Scarlett and I travelled around London visiting all the fashionista spots, Brick Lane, Camden Town etc. Hunting out shop owners with trendy apparel, flushing out fascinating fashion designers and most importantly, finding the fashion forward streetwalkers. We spoke to some pretty amazing people. Also ate at a superlative Turkish restaurant in Brick Lane.

On the production I was mostly filming. Scar was interviewing and took the starring roles as hottie presenter, and director. The video has gone into postproduction and when everything is finished, hope to feature it here, right on this blog.

Here is a lil’ fashion feature on Scarlett.

Ain’t she a cutie ;)

Robbed a charity shop...

I’m not sure what you did today, but me… I headed down to just one (there are like nine in walking distance from my house, no lie) of my local charity shops.

In the charity shop, that’s where I picked up three one metre white cotton and linen fabrics, body shop flannel and a fabric flower pin… ALL FOR 50p!!!

Say it with me… AMAZING!! *bargasm*

I’m not sure what I’m gonna do with the materials I “bought”, but as soon as I find out what I gonna do, you will too. The one thing I am certain about is…

Hallelujah for charity shops!!

H!

My first post… and all that is going through my head is, “what to write?

Believe it or not it took a few days of frustrated deliberation, and constant changing my mind then to finally settle on this seemingly simple blog layout.  I’m exhausted! I can be so indecisive. At least when it comes to most things, however when it comes to what to wear, I always know what I feel good in… well… most of the time I wear anything that’s clean… doing laundry can be a drag. Don’t get it twisted, I love fashion.

… and this is what I’m wearing!

There’ll be more from me. Stay tuned.
